Different class to Cpt Phillips. How could you expect Hollywood to create more suspense and drama than Europe? Come on wise up!

reply

not better than Cap'n P. Cap'n P was very well done.

But, they were different movies. Cap'n P was much more about CHARACTERS, which is what H'wood loves. THis was more about "negotiating" & "business", which H'wood find boring.

It is more about the CEO than about the crew or the hijackers. It is more about business & negotiations than about pirates and heroes.

reply

This seemed more realistic, especially since Captain Phillips is a well documented fraud.

this movie is nowhere close to being 'better' than 'captain phillips'.. in fact, this movie is totally ruined by the needless twist at the end..

spoilers:

the fact that the cook decided to wear his gold wedding band at the end in full view of these thugs completely made me lose sympathy for him.. at that point, I almost wished he (the cook) had gotten shot in the head too.. I know, I know.. but that's how ludicrously absurd and irritating that moment of sheer 'stupidity' was on the part of the cook (and the captain too for that matter as it was the captain who decided to have a needless tussle with a GUN-TOTING THUG! I was like: dudeS, have you not noticed yet that these people are thugs who'd sell their own mothers into prostitution to make a buck if they had to? wtf? and you're going to wear a piece of gold jewelry that supposedly means the world to you right in front of these fckers and then start a pissy fight with a GUN-TOTING THUG? really, you fools? LOL

at that point, the whole movie became an epic FAIL and I just said fck this s#ite..

by comparison, 'captain phillips' didn't contain any such ludicrously contrived moments of sheer stupidity manipulated to blatantly tug at the sensitivities of the viewers.. a big fail in that regard by the way! hence 'captain phillips' is an infinitely superior and more believable film, and not just because it was actually based on actual events but because the main characters don't behave like complete tools..

it wasn't the fall from her 16th-floor penthouse that killed her, it was the landing

I agree about the twist completely and had posted previously the exact sMe thing as you. But up until that no sense I was held to the screen and enthralled with how it played out. Not so with cap'n. Although it was a nice film also

Captain Phillips was a well made movie but it's propaganda by Hollywood as usual.

There were some true elements to the film but they made Phillips out to be a hero when in actuality the crew hated him, he was highly negligent, and was taken hostage/did not give himself up for the crew.

The sniping scenes and seizure of the boat though were well shot. I don't usually like watching movies based on a true story, because it's often completely inaccurate.

If we disregard the accuracy of the movie though and let's just say lived under a rock and knew nothing about current events, Captain Phillips was a really good movie. So was this.
