Flora in the Front Seat?

In the US, it is recommended that children under 13 years of age NOT ride in the front passenger seat of any car/SUV. Caroline not only had Flora in the front seat, but facing forward and apparently not even belted in, as she was at an angle on the seat. In fact, she did not even seem to be in a proper car seat at all, but in a baby carrier. What are the laws in the UK?

Maybe Flora was in the front seat to heighten the drama of the conversation/disagreement between Caroline and Kate. The only way Caroline can think of to properly care for Flora is employ a nanny, which Kate always said she'd never allow. Flora's in the front seat; Kate's in the back seat; Caroline's kinda sitting in between them, physically and figuratively.

Meryl Streep is a shape-shifter.

Well, she's NOT sitting between them physically, because Kate is a figment of her imagination. When they left the funeral, Flora was in a regulation rear-facing car-seat, in the back seat, so they have one - either Caroline is unconsciously endangering her or has chosen to rid herself of the encumbrance of the child she never wanted via an "accident".

FYI, this isn't a documentary. She could carry the kid on the luggage rack if she wanted to.

Does saying it twice make it more emphatic?

No, it makes it an IMDB glitch.

The laws in the UK are currently much like the laws in the US. Of course, when Caroline's boys were babies, those laws would have been different, just as they were previously in the US. Perhaps she was assuming that habit.

When I lived in England, we carried newborns in strapped-in carry cots in the back seat (horrors!) and then in rear-facing seats much like the one Caroline was using, and in the front seat.

But I doubt the laws apply to parked cars during filming, so I'm going to agree with the suggestion that it was a way to get all three in the same shot.

She is in a rear-facing carrier, but it does concern me that she is in the front seat of Caroline's Jeep every time: after the funeral, taking Will to the station, then the wedding. Even if it is just to get Kate in the shot from the back seat, it gives viewers the wrong idea -- that babies are safe in the front seat.

Oh, yeah, for sure we don't want ANYONE to get any "wrong ideas" from the films.
