shareIt was pretty good! Nothing too absurd for a Sally Wainwright work. AND nothing to heavy-handed, which was refreshing. It was a bit funny but also eye-rolling at the same time to give Caroline a 'type' with her new girlfriend.
After series three, I didn't see much left that could be squeezed out of these characters. There wasn't, but it was nice to see them again.

it took me longer than it should have to figure out who olga was. i thought she was flora's nanny. i liked the blithe spirit bit and did think the friend would have been brilliant in the role but of course he had to go and get drunk and break something. that ghost in the barn storyline was actually played out quite well i thought. i didn't think they could do much else with them either but it turns out they can
It wasn't bad. Personally I think the show has gone as far as it can or should. Thank god they left the bastard son Gary out of the story.
The fact that Caroline and Gillian actually seem to be real friends now and there is resolution with their respective personal dramas seems to make any further season unnecessary. Their characters have grown but they are still true to who they are.
Caroline is taking risks in her life and making changes even though she's still uptight
Gillian still will have self-esteem issues but at least she's faced some of her demons
There really is no need to go further on the show. This is especially so as Alan and Celia are pretty much unchanged and unlikely ever will
He's a kind man who is still too passive of a guy who doesn't want to rock the boat and who needs to stand up for himself more. She's still strong and direct but pushy, self-centered and thoughtless. the whole business with the will and their funeral plans is proof of that.
It was sad but not surprising how badly Alan and Celia handled it and responded to the situation. Alan waits months after the fact to tell Gillian. When Caroline learns how blindsided Gillian was and relays it to her mom, Celia is dismissive as par for the course. Gillian continues to be an afterthought to her.
At least Gillian has grown enough to realize it is pointless for her to say anything to her dad. She said it herself. She'll just come across as petty and childish. She also knows all these changes are probably Celia's doing. If her dad dies first, she can't expect fair treatment from Celia. Caroline knows it too.
Caroline has also grown and knows Gillian's rantings are not simply petty jealousy. She knows Gillian is genuinely hurt and has legitimate reasons to feel uneasy about the situation. Caroline knows it will be up to her if Gillian has any hope of being treated fairly when it comes to the estate
I thought they were remarkably rich and layered for a mere two episodes after a (gigantic đ„) two year gap! Itâs very interesting, isnât it? The drastically differing perspectives folk can have! Personally, I would be extremely disappointed if this was âthe endâ! Far from it I would say these masterfully structured (and executed) episodes more than proved. Not only did Sally Wainwright pick up and fill in the gaps brilliantly, but proved there is much more mileage left in these wonderful characters yet. Setting it up beautifully for the next instalmentâŠwhenever that may be?! Only hope it is not too long this time! Personally I would be delighted to watch these characters, this Last Tango in Halifax world, be brought to life just as long as SW deems fit! There truly is nothing else like it on TV. It is a rare gem.
