S5, Ep4: - The Chedworth Cyclone

Dear Reader can you help please?

Where did this Chesterton short story originally appear, when and what was the title?

I am curious to read it - surely Chesterton did not describe the police investigator so he appeared as ridiculously as he was portrayed here?

Nonetheless it was a fabulously produced episode - though I doubt the "characters" were as beautiful looking in Chesterton's mind's eye as they appeared on my TV screen, what say you?

Thanks, if you can answer or add a comment.

It didn't appear anywhere because it doesn't exist. Only the character of Father Brown is based loosely, not to say very loosely, on the books. No Sid, Felicia and Mrs. McCarthy. Father Brown only has one (sometime) sidekick, reformed criminal Flambeau. And the police is not portrayed quite so stupid as in the show.

Only the first few episodes of the show have the same titles as the stories, but the plots were changed nevertheless. So this show has really not much to do with its source material.
