What is up with using a really young actress as his wife?

It's just not believable to me. She's like what, late 20s in this film? She certainly looks late thirties but even so, how old is she playing? Is she playing a 29 year old or a 39 year old? He looks his age to me (late 40s/early 50s). So him being much much older than her is just really strange. It either means he met her when she was a teenager or they are newly married but that's not how it's laid out. In the film, it's "apparent" that they have been together a while and that she has been a computer scientist for a while, so I'm a bit lost with this and on top of that, he looks like he's her Father..Don't get me wrong, Johnny Depp is extremely sexy and I am fully aware he married someone nearly 25 years younger but having him play the husband of a much younger woman just doesn't seem right for this specific film. I'm just confused.

Im not surprised. Leading men with romantic interests half their age is the norm in Hollywood it seems, maybe it makes the guy seem younger and sexier. I can name several recent films where the lady was 20 yrs younger: Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow, Tom Cruise in Oblivion, Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner. Lets not forget Leo di Caprio in Wolf of Wall Street.

*beep* hell have you never seen a man with a much younger woman in a movie before? Have you never seen old black and white movies????????

Or it means that they got together when she was in her twenties.

She is in her thirties. It's not *beep* science.

What is the big deal?

I wondered why they didn't seek a hotter actress to play his wife. He's Johnny Depp and she looks like Chelsea Clinton.

Interesting point. Reminds me of two films in particular; 1) Entrapment with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones and 2) a Jackie Chan movie the name of which escapes me now, but his love interest didn't even appear of legal age. It really creeped me out that one.

I brought this same point up about Tom Cruise in his movie "Oblivion." Aged 50 plus in that film, his TWO leading ladies were in their twenties, and when I brought it up by creating the thread "Wouldn't SALLY have been more age-appropriate?" I got totally flamed for suggesting that someone his age like, say Sandra Bullock, would've been more appropriate. Actually, every Tom Cruise film of late has a leading lady 20 years his junior, like Emily Blunt in "Edge of Tomorrow."

Appearances. She actually looks older than him in some scenes.

it is not hard to figure out.. men like younger women because they are fertile and can have kids.. someone like say.. sandra bullock doesn't have the ability to have children anymore
