Lily Collins
How was Lily's performance in this movie? Is she any good?
sharesaw an advance screening and she surprised me in this movie. I thought the character wasn't written as well as it could have been a bit one-dimensional but she did really well in the role. And her chemistry with Logan Lerman is very evident. They made a very engaging team onscreen.
If I were to rate the actors in this ensemble piece, I enjoyed Logan Lerman's and Lily's performances the most. It also felt like the audience was most engaged during their scenes together.

Better than Jennifer Connelly?! I wasn't expecting to hear that...
Jennifer Connelly and Kinnear, for that matter, were their usual competent selves but Jen's role felt slightly underdeveloped. While enjoyable and clever with all the literary references, Josh Boone's first writing/directing effort played it a bit safe. Nonetheless what makes it really entertaining and lifts the film is the acting from the entire cast. The actors all come across as natural, authentic, you believe them as these characters even Lily whose bitchiness may be a little bit much for the audience.
It's the kind of film that will annoy some hard-nosed, give me the gritty stuff type of critics but general audiences looking for a nice, earnest and in some places unashamedly romantic indie dramedy will find much to like
At the very least it will make you want to get a headstart on the books mentioned plus download the A+ soundtrack (shoutout to Saddlecreek Records artists)

I thought she did very well, but I say that not having seen anything else she was in to compare it to. I thought the entire cast did very well. She was very likeable in the film, despite her character being written the opposite way, and I thought especially her scenes with Jennifer Connelly were done very well.
