Why WET STREETS???

When Mark pulls up to Cameron Diaz's law firm, the street are glistening wet. Yet, no one in the shots seem to have just come out of the rain. Come to think of it, 90% of the films I watch have asphalt streets that have recently been rained (not naturally) on. Again, this is the case yet none of the extras in the shots are carrying umbrellas or wearing rain gear.
Why do films "wet" their streets?

reply

Well, for reasons that escape me, the movie "guys" think this makes the shots look better. I think it is stupid and especially on movies that are filmed in places that it almost never rains.

It's a lighting technique.

Asphalt is very dull and non-reflective when it's dry. So often the decision is made to wet the streets. Usually this is for night shots.

Most people don't notice.
