"You should have killed me...

...when you had the chance. As in, don't hesitate to kill someone, which I am doing now, which will predictably end in my death."

Is what Common would have said if Liam Neeson hadn't shot him. This was a solid action movie until Common showed up and started having flaming debris fights with Darkman. From then on it just was kind of over the top.

reply

Oh man, I DO see the reference to 'Darkman' now in the apartment scene!

reply

Commmon thought liam neason was dead. liam was dead but came back to life out of pure will to save his son. common had no other threats to stop him at that pooint and wanted to savor his final kill.

reply

Well it still made me cringe when he said it, he might as well have said "Your daddy won't save you this time!".
Just really cheesy and unprofessional for a supposed professional.

reply

It would be a breath of fresh air if they had a movie where the hit man never said a word, never tried to make some witty comment or any other crap, never tried to slowly kill the person or let them know it was about to happen... just went about doing their job.

reply

thats sorter from the film revolver.although he does say the occasional word.

reply

Watch Kingsman. there is nice reference to all this.

I'm so excited, I think I'll brush all my teeth today!

Check out Kill List (2011).

Leon The Professional. Even Taken to some degree, compared to its predecessors.

I agree but am a little more forgiving in this case. It seemed personal. He had a gripe against the father ("I would kill him for free"), then the father burned his face up as well. Also, it is not clear whether he knew Shawn was dead. If he did, the hit was off but he kept coming. So b/c it was personal, I will forgive a little smack talk before the execution. But it did look like so many other contrived scenes.

I would say my memory is not what it used to be. But I don't remember what my memory used to be.

and wanted to savor his final kill.
That's how all the bad guys are screwed in movies, and I mean every single movie. It was a too-long-in-the-tooth cliche 50 years ago, today it's overused to death..

Fanboy : a person who does not think while watching.

From then on? Hoe about the police car chase scene? After that the fire debris fihgt seemed pretty subtle and realistic. Lol

I still can't figure out how the power is turned off and the frying [pan sets the building on fire anyway. Oh...Deux ex Machina. They had to start a fire to give Jimmy a way to burn the Killer's face to make him seem scarier at the end. Just like the kid happen to jump in the limo and record the real bad guys being bad.

Well, I had fun with it all anyway. Lol

reply

It's clearly shown as a gas burner. Electricity is not required for it to remain on, only for the initial spark to light it.

reply

i couldn't figure out why, when a police officer bashes on your door to get you to evacuate the building, on your way out you turn the fry pan cooking bacon up to max before leaving..

reply

She had multiple pans on the stove and was attempting to turn of all the burners when the police made her evacuate.

Made me crack up!

This movie relied way too much on coincidences, to happen.

So, the albanians killed by Ed Harris son are the same guys who were being brought by Liam Neeson's son, because he had to be a limo driver during that night. 

It's also a coincidence that Liam happens to be at the same place and same hour that Ed Harris goes to kill Liam's son. So, he would have been killed if Liam hadn't been there. 

When Liam's son calls the police, the cops that got the call, were the same cops being paid by Ed Harris and his son. So, in a universe of thousands of cops, your call was picked up by the only 2 corrupt ones. 

The list could go on. Not a bad movie ( in fact it was solid, much better than Taken 2,3 ), but the script was lazy throughout. It seems it was written in less than 1 day, when the writter was farting insided of the bathroom. It could have been polished in that regard.

Plotholes are also a problem. So, if Liam hadn't called Ed Harris to say he killed his son, then the whole movie wouldn't have happened. 

reply

Do you watch movies much? Every single movie relies on coincidence. Without it, films would be pretty boring, as more often than not we would just be watching a guy go through his day with nothing interesting happening.

From my viewing, the biggest question for me is how did Michael know which apartment they were fighting in during the fire. They had gone out the window and down a couple floors at that point.

It's a small world in dog eat dog land

I thought that scene was just Stars wars with Fire Sabre's

I don't know that it was all over the top "from then on" (it was at least a bit over the top in places before that), but the assassin character wasn't really necessary to the overall story arc of the film.

I wish they had left out the assassin (and the whole apartment block scene while we're at it), which would have left D'Onofrio and his partner more screen time and made the whole thing a bit more solid.

It's just one of the countless clichés this movie had. One of the least inspired and forgetful action movies I've ever seen, to be honest.

-You won't forget me now?

-No. I've got nobody else to remember.
