Why do people keep watching these action/thrillers?

I'm far from a prude but the profanity and violence and inhumanity . . . in lieu of intelligent/adult dialog . . . wears very thin very fast.

To me, they're like polkas . . . seen one, seen 'em all.

Apparently but isn't it the "same ol' shootemup" over and over?

My question is with a friend of mine (he's almost 70) who is a retired professional but seems to gravitate toward Liam Neeson type films instead of more mature themes.

I was prompted to ask this question after being at his house where he seemed glued to this "on demand" offering. I asked him what movie he was watching and he said "I don't know but it's a really good movie."

He spends a fortune on "all the channels" (HBO, Showtime, pay per play, etc.) and most of the stuff he watches is just Hollywood junk aimed at adolescents. I get that's it's OK to have different tastes but I'm worried that this is along the lines of arrested development.

When he has watched a more "grown up" type of movie with me, he seems to drift off and starts playing with his laptop but the action flicks keep him glued to the set.

Got to ask. What was the grown up movie you're talking about?

Why do people listen to Justin Bieber? Why do they watch the Kardashians?

Maybe cos they're an exciting contrast to most people's humdrum lives. It's escapism. And I'd watch Liam Neeson and Vincent D'Onofrio in just about anything!

I think maybe you suffer from MPD. In this post, you criticize these types of movies and the people who watch them and how its a waste of time. Glancing over your post history you watch these types of movies the most!
