This movie made me sad Chris Farley died

Watched both these Grown Ups films this summer for the first time. I hated the first one and kind of sort of liked the second one. But every time I really started enjoying the sequel, Kevin James would start talking again. I don't understand who keeps giving this guy jobs. He's never said one funny thing in his life yet he keeps getting comedy roles. The only time I've seen a movie where he didn't anger me with his terrible performance was Hitch, and in that movie he was more a straight man for Will Smith to play off of. I understand he had some terrible sitcom that people watched for a few years, but so do a lot of unfunny people. Who decided this guy is a movie star all of a sudden?!

The point is, you look at this cast, you've got three highly talented comedians and some fat schmuck. Yes all three (Rock, Spade, Sandler) have done their fair share of terrible work, but they've all done legendary amazing comedy too and been in classic movies. Even Schneider (who I was glad they cut out of the sequel) was at least funny on SNL a couple times here and there, unlike James.

The whole time I was watching the sequel I kept thinking about how great the movie would be if Farley was alive and playing the James role as he undoubtedly would be. I bet some of the cast were thinking this too during filming. It got to the point where I was trying to imagine James face as Farley's and imagine Farley delivering his lines the whole film. It's sad to think how much beter these movies could have been with him to carry them instead of James to drag them down.

I've been saying this samething for years. They're trying to replace Farley with James and it just isn't right. Nobody can replace Chris

reply

That's a fact. Glad I'm not the only one thinking this. Kevin James should not be a movie star. He should be living in a van down by the river!

reply

Man, a Matt Foley movie would have been awesome.

reply

If your friends with Adam Sandler, your lucky. He's pretty much paying you to be his friend and do things that are retarded with him.

I promise I'm not trying to be a jerk.....but its "you're". Easy fix. You're very welcome.

If you'd like to feel even SADDER about Chris Farley dying, go read about the last year and a half or so of his life. In addition to all the drugs and alcohol and weight gain and failed rehab attempts, he starred in "Beverly Hills Ninja," one of the worst movies ever (admitted by nearly all involved, including Chris Rock), which Farley saw in theaters and was apparently miserably ashamed of, to the point where he vowed to actually make a serious movie about Fatty Arbuckle where he was going to play the guy, that would actually be a good movie for a change (confession: I still like "Tommy Boy," but "Black Sheep" is pretty embarrassing now aside from the stoned-driving bit.)

Then, of course, overdose, hooker takes pictures of him dead that end up on the Internet, you know the drill.

reply

If he hadnt died of an overdose he probably would have died of a heart attack by 2010 anyway so the entire point is moot. Dude was already a water buffalo when he died...add ten+ years to that and imagine what he would be doing then.

Sorry Brother.

Kevin James is a close friend of Adam Sandlers. His show was King of Queens and it was really funny by the way. I became a fan of it watching reruns. If Chris Farley was still alive, he would not have the part played by Kevin James. Chris Farley was a more physical communicator and was more suited for supporting characters in movies. With that being said, he would deathly be in this movie in some capacity and would have killed in the movie.
