This movie made me sad Chris Farley died
Watched both these Grown Ups films this summer for the first time. I hated the first one and kind of sort of liked the second one. But every time I really started enjoying the sequel, Kevin James would start talking again. I don't understand who keeps giving this guy jobs. He's never said one funny thing in his life yet he keeps getting comedy roles. The only time I've seen a movie where he didn't anger me with his terrible performance was Hitch, and in that movie he was more a straight man for Will Smith to play off of. I understand he had some terrible sitcom that people watched for a few years, but so do a lot of unfunny people. Who decided this guy is a movie star all of a sudden?!
The point is, you look at this cast, you've got three highly talented comedians and some fat schmuck. Yes all three (Rock, Spade, Sandler) have done their fair share of terrible work, but they've all done legendary amazing comedy too and been in classic movies. Even Schneider (who I was glad they cut out of the sequel) was at least funny on SNL a couple times here and there, unlike James.
The whole time I was watching the sequel I kept thinking about how great the movie would be if Farley was alive and playing the James role as he undoubtedly would be. I bet some of the cast were thinking this too during filming. It got to the point where I was trying to imagine James face as Farley's and imagine Farley delivering his lines the whole film. It's sad to think how much beter these movies could have been with him to carry them instead of James to drag them down.
