Much better than "Sherlock"
Cumberbatch and the other guy could not look less threatening
shareif you like your sherlock dumbed down to the max, then yes.
shareNo, I prefer my Sherlock being a superintelligent extraterrestial who solves the most complex mental tasks in the blink of an eye (literally) with the help of super detective vision which highlights clues and helps him analyse person's handwriting from 10 meters away. And yeah, he can also solve crime in his head while giving a speech. And when he takes a shot of coke, he has days worth of mind trip condensed in few real life minutes in which he also solves complex crimes.
Of course, simpletons will find this silly. But if you're a true fan with an iq of 200 and if you can appreciate all the intricacies, especially the parts where he calls everybody an idiot (except his even smarter brother, who is so smart that he can learn a foreign language faster than you can learn to define mitochondria (but has some trouble with the accents)), you'll love it! XD
I enjoy Elementary. Sometimes the mystery of the week is crappy but sometimes it is fantastic. The real strength of the show is the characters. The portrayals and chemistry of all the characters in this show are superb. I was skeptical of this show when it came out but it has become a favorite.
I find the show Sherlock to be embarrassingly flawed. The visual clues are lame and what the half-wit writers probably think smart people see. It often borders on campy. A bad episode of Elementary(about 1 out of 5) is just boring or some bad writing parts. A bad episode of Sherlock (about 2 out of 3) is insulting. It is mediocre at its best. It is too bad. I wish they were both exceptional.
