So all of the sudden she's gone ga-ga
Was it really that sudden, though? It's pretty clear she's gone through a LOT of trauma, possibly more trauma than any of the other main characters. Being the last of her people, trapped in the court of the man who massacred her family, masquerading as a princess to survive, falling in love with and losing her virginity to Marco, then being forced to marry Jingim, suffering through the quail-egg virginity test, knowing that Chabi knows she isn't virgin, being under pressure to produce the empire's next heir when she's trying to hide the fact that she's not royal, and then having her mother-in-law PLAN AND SUPERVISE A RAPE just so Kublai *might* have a grandson in time for the kurultai, sabotaging what looked like Kokachin's one shot at happiness with Jingim....Is that not enough pressure to 'justify' a psychological break?
Also, Kokachin clearly feels guilty about the stablehand's death, esp. after meeting his widow. All that fear and guilt and sublimated shame, combined with the pressure to perform under Chabi's constant presence, makes some sort of mental breakdown seem reasonable.
