Is the American accent and other weak portayals. Compare this to GOT, where each accent nuance paired with superior acting, results in a much better show. Marco Polo is a terrific story to be told but execution is key and us lacking here.
Is that all your critique of the series? What about burning hordes of horses that run for miles and set fire to whatever comes in their way - totally realistic.... ?
Its more disinterest really. The first season was very interesting, the trebuchets and other curiosities of the Mongols was nicely presented. This season is a disaster and Im only 2 episodes in, totally not buying the Mongols. The irony is as a student of history, there are some spectacular stories to tell, stories that are actually nothing short of brilliant. E.g. the exploits of the General Subotai and invasions of Japan, India , the destruction of Baghdad, great stories, but this particular one is BS.
Correct on all counts, remember I said "stories" to tell, didnt say that they should be contemporary. Even Marco Polo's story is rife with hearsay, but still could be told better.
Plus casting is terrible, one of his sons is Black in the show, totally unbelievable.
It was a good idea poorly executed. They set up the idea earlier in the series by telling a story of how Genghis Khan instructed everybody to tie twine to every sparrows leg and set fire to it before releasing them into town and the Sparrow flew to it's "safety" only to set an entire village on fire. Kublai copied the sparrow stunt only setting his horses on fire idea from this but to make it believable they should have thrown a blanket or carpet over the horse and set fire to it before sending them stampeding into the Christians Camp. Setting the horse itself on fire wouldn't create a big enough fire or allow the horse to last long enough to do any damage.
