Crusaders in Mongolia? Come on...

Ok I know its not suppose to be 100% historically accurate, but it has now reached alternative history level. Its like this history is from a parallel universe where the timeline is substantially different.

I just think it has jumped the shark now.

It was pretty ridiculous, but the show has always had a strained relationship with reality. They have taken a TON of artistic license, and mostly for the better.

I don't have a problem with it. They are basically taking the Prester John legend and making it based in reality. Many Europeans really did believe there was a giant Christian army hanging around somewhere in the Orient that would swoop in and help them win the Crusades.

I am also talking about the Papal organised Crusade in the series. That too is just beyond silly. Such a crusader army would not of made it past Mongol occupied Baghdad and Persia.

reply

Weren't they actually in China at that point?

Anyway...

I just think it has jumped the shark now.

...I do not think it means what you think it means.

It's supposed to be Prester John, not European Crusaders.

There is both. Did you miss the whole Papal organised Crusade???

The crusader did really exist... And he did betray kublai khan.

Yeah, the Crusader/Christian involvement thing is beginning to hinder the show. Having Christians like Nayan and Eastern Rite types is fine. I honestly wish Nayan had more to do and had actively brought Christianity to the court, rather than had a boring AF Pedo storyline. (Excellent actor though. What a waste he's already gone.)

I'm on the fence with Season 3. If more nasal British Crusaders show up, I'm done. If Prester John is Nestorian, with 'orient' roots and aesthetics, actually using the legend as heavy inspiration, I'll continue watching.
