If I remember correctly, Nayan is the Christian/Catholic working in the East who said religion helped him turn away from sins of the flesh,

BUT I think it was inferred that his sin was pedophilia thus the issue with the young princess going into his care?

Am I confusing characters/plotlines or is this correct?

I just watched the scene where he says to Ahmed-You know of my sin. I came here to see if anyone knew for sure. It sure sounds like it to me!
