So wait... the original show was a bomb too??

They don't have any more decent shows in Europe that can be turned into shows in the US? They have to get the bad ones that have been canceled in Europe?

And they wonder why it's a bomb.

I recently watched the Danish show and it looks like it was a set of TV movies. The last movie clearly was the end of the show (i.e. if you see it you would understand). It looks like they don’t do long term shows in Europe, so to say it bomb would be a misunderstanding.

Yea, so this was like 2 or 3 movies. Does anyone know how they memorize lines??

I guess it's a temporary project with big pay.

After you finally get sick of the lines, I guess you go home..

It's supposed to be fun. I mean something a bit more iconic like Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or even Frozen by a good writer would not be a crime on the actors. I'm writing a script @ the beach, a candy land factory, and a fantasy land of sweets like the Nutcracker. I plan to make big bucks on it. I gotta. I will sell in every major language caption!

I wanted to be a movie star, but I am scraping for a TV contract 1st, I guess.

IMO it makes more sense to remake a "bad" movie/show rather than remake a classic/already well loved movie/show.

reply

Well, depends on if the show is a good plot.

You have the concept wrong: it was not a cancelled show, it was a completed show. It was actually a big success and after the 10th episode, the "finale" was a movie that was showed in theatres.
I'm currently watching the original show and it's much better, in the adaptation they made up a lot of stuff.

Nope, it was canned:

Those Who Kill (Danish: Den som dræber) is a Danish crime TV series from 2011, which follows a fictitious unit within Copenhagen Police which specialises in investigating serial murders. The series was aired as five two-part stories in Denmark (i.e. ten episodes in total), but has aired as five feature film length episodes in most other countries.

A separate 92 minute feature film, Fortidens skygge, which forms a continuation and ending of the series, premiered in Danish cinemas on 15 March 2012 and is being aired as a final, sixth episode of the series in many other countries, such as the UK and Germany.

Although originally planned to run for several seasons, Danish TV2 announced in October 2011 that there would be no further seasons made, due to falling viewer shares after the first few episodes. TV2 programming manager Keld Reinicke stated that, "We have no plans to continue the series as it never gave us the audience share we expected in Denmark.

I think the original was a by-the-numbers serial killer show. This remake turned out to be better than expected. They did more with the female character than just make her a kick ass type character.

They went too far with the space cowboy stuff. It was frankly uncomfortable and too casual a pay off for those sadistically overlong scenes.

Nevertheless, it is quite shocking how they toss series away in America after putting so much time and money into them. It is frankly baffling.

I enjoyed the US version but the Danish version was far better - more atmosphere, more believable, more depth to the stories and characters.

reply

Exactly! That's why I disliked the US version so much - it was too much of "in your face" mood. Everything was laid out and it lacked subtlety.

reply

The original did not bomb - it was a decent series. IMO, the US version bombed because they had all the material and still managed to screw it up. I had hope early in the series, but the execution was rather pathetic.
