I can't see it mentioned already but why didn't Norman kill Marion Crane?

Why did they change the most pivotal moment in the movie and the whole premise that the show was building up to...?

I think it was just them throwing a curveball at the audience having Sam get murdered instead of Marion. Really liked the series but that was a letdown to me.

reply

yes, that was it, no other reason

And killed by Norman instead of Norma. I think that was an important distinction as well.

In Normanโ€™s mind, Jim Loomis was the first person he killed. The rest, he would say, were killed by Norma.

OH STFU..๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„.why would anyone need a THIRD version of the original psycho story. ..glad they changed it....

Show reason: Norman sympathized with her more than he was interested in her, so he could let her go, and Sam was set up to remind of his dad so he'd kill him.

Real life reason: They wanted to redo the Psycho story but still do their own thing, so they could surprise us and avoid inevitable comparisons.

reply

Because it was a story inspired by Psycho, rather than it being a to-the-letter prequel.

I thought the twist on the fate of Marion was truly inspired and just another reason why this show was an underrated gem. Clever and brave, I loved every minute of it.

Technically he did, Bradley Martin was his Marion Crane.
