Rihanna made this show unwatchable again....

... after four failed attempts to get over season 1 I finally got to Season 5 and was happy that the show improved in season 4 (last two episodes) and concentrated back on Norman/Norma only. All this teenie-emma/cannabis/pseudo-mobster bulls*** was too generic and boring to me. No talented actors circling around a wonderful Vera Farmiga. Basicly I watch it just because of Vera Farmiga. But I guess I have to stop again, or go back to skipping (what I did a looot) now that Rihanna bought herself a role in this show and quality is fallen back to below zero...

I love the show, but they pandered to that singer. She ain't no actor. I am very disappointed.

I mostly agree with you: I think seasons 1 and 2 were pretty weak and I struggled to remain interested in the show, also. Too much soap-opera drama BS, the town's seedy criminal underbelly, Dylan's pot-business....blah blah blah.

Then, after Norman/Norma killed his teacher, it started to get good, and I really liked seasons 3 and 4.

But, unfortunately, this season (the final) hasn't really grabbed me...I'm just not getting a sense of the intensity that should have been generated as Norman is escalating out of control. It seems like it would be pretty obvious to everyone that he should be locked up by now, and he's getting away with far too much aberrant behavior to take this story seriously anymore.

Exactly!

You don't think Freddy Highmore is talented? I do. Vera's my favorite, but Freddy is an outstanding Norman, IMO.

Can't watch S5 yet, so no opinion on Rihanna, but wasn't her part rather small?

reply

Hes okay. Her part was big enough to annoy the hell out of the audience. No point in hiring her in the first place as there are several real actresses around to cast.

reply

damn straight! A joke

reply

Agreed. But I feel like the writing and plot twist were enough to make up for her acting.

reply

Hated the lame plot twist!

Of course it'll strike people differently. I liked it because it completely subverted my expectations. We were all expecting Marion to die. If they had offed her, it would've been even more compared to the film, and probably negatively, because it would've been a pale imitation. By making it a completely different character, it did its own thing while paying homage to the film. I can understand why some people didn't like it, but it worked for me.
