I caught The Purge on FX yesterday. During the scene where the message from the government is played and the purge begins, I noticed that they removed the original purge sound and replace it with a tornado siren. Did anyone else happen to catch this? I can't figure out why they would bother changing something like that. ???

shareThe sound effect they played to announce the beginning of the Purge that I heard on DVD sounded like the sound that's used for Emergency Broadcast announcements. A TV station probably is not allowed to use that sound except during one of those announcements.
shareThat's an interesting point, but I wasn't talking about the Emergency Broadcast noise that takes place before the purge notice plays on tv. When they air the movie on FX, that noise at the end is replaced with a generic tornado siren.
So they kept the Emergency Broadcast sound but changed the warning sound to a siren? That is strange. The purge commencement warning sound on your YouTube video is the same as the sound I heard on the DVD.
To confuse things even more, I watched Purge 2 Anarchy tonight on FX. The TV announcement at the beginning of the purge did not use the Emergency Broadcast sound and the warning sound was an air raid or tornado siren, just as you described it in the first movie. But later the siren sound used to announce the end of the purge is the same electronic warning sound we hear on your YouTube video, not the siren sound we heard earlier. It makes me think that the first siren was not a replacement edited in for TV broadcast since they didn't change the second siren and that they intended to have two different warning sirens. I can't know that for sure without knowing what the first siren in Purge 2 sounds like on the DVD.
OP I just saw this movie for the 3rd time on FX last night and thought I was crazy. I knew that sounded different. They did it to the end siren too.
