Started out so good but went down hill

It started out so good! I loved the stories, the characters and the songs (personally I love musicals)!! The cast was phenomenal and the visual effects were also good (except I was kinda disappointed that we didn't get to see the giant land), but the story kinda went down hill at some point. I'm not familiar with the original play but I am not sure what the point was. I was expecting it to end with a happily ever after with a twist but instead they took it too far. What was the idea? If it was to tell us to be careful what you wish for, I don't think they did a good job. The characters blaming each other was too artificial. Some simply died or disappeared. And what happened to the rest we really don't know.
On top of that, it seems like they forgot some stuff, for example the baker never met Rapunzel or found out she was his sister...
So all in all, It's a shame because it could have been a great movie... :(

The second act of the stage show was rather severely cut for the film, but for excellent reasons.

The characters mill around and interact randomly and gang up on the narrator, etc. It's supposed to be some sort of long statement about free will, but the fact is Act II is unfocused and tedious and is probably the reason it took about forty years for the show to be made into a film.

I liked the end nice to see a different take on a fairy tales.
