Is the American celebratory genre dead?

I loved American Sniper, yeah some bad acting in some of it, yeah you can easily view some of it as propaganda if you start thinking too much into it but overall it's a movie. It's an entertaining movie that tells a pretty classic story arch of an American soldier, this one happens to be very current and close to modern times. It does present the "American" in an eye rolling way at some scenes, the tough father handing out lessons on being a tough s.o.b at the dinner table and other scenes were almost comical, it might have been a scene that would have worked in 1986 but today we are a by-product of our own culture, we have seen too much, we know too much, it's too easy to make fun of it. But *beep* that stuff, that was either poor script writing or poor screenplay choices or maybe it's just ourselves ruining it, maybe we're just too smart, too cynical now to let a scene like that slide. If something like Red Dawn came out today we'd laugh too, the stand proud, stand tall American celebratory genre is dead I guess. Films like Top Gun existed in the only time they could exist, I guess the wave crested and burst and we no longer want to watch the guy pump his fist in the sky and say hell yeah for his country. Cuz a lot of the stuff that goes with war we now know as *beep* it's a *beep* up system. We now know we have been lied to a lot. However, Like I said, *beep* that *beep* though I liked it for the action and for the general story. I don't buy into every single scene or line being actual fact, I take the story lightly when comparing it to the actual events. Overall if you just watch it as a movie it's a cool, not so much as a war film but as a soldier's film.

Hard to tell a true story when the man that it was about died right before it started filming, that is why there has not been a John Wayne movie about Wayne. But they were already 100% devoted to the film by that time.

I guess so.
