They retire. They live their lives the best they can with pension. They try their best to remember that they've fought to protect their country. Sometimes they get jobs, usually in law enforcement or security but it varies. If they're lucky enough after all of their experiences to be capable enough to help out other Vets (or even just the general public), they do.
However, they are, and always will be, heroes.

patients at the VA, checking out the hot wives and girlfriends of other veterans. ranting every now and then on FB. but mostly hot chicks. at least American snipers. no idea about other countries.
shareBuddy of mine works for an airline (I know which but won't say and don't know exactly what his role is, but he works for aircraft maintenance somehow) and is also a martial arts instructor. He also works for a military charity that helps veterans re-aclimate to civilian life.
