How did this movie managed to break boxoffice records?

What's so special with American Sniper?
I found the movie to be an average war genre movie.
Yes it got a message but really do not get all the hype...

..and we DO love our hero's. Audie Murphy WW2 actor and war hero is a Medal of Honor recipient and buried at Arlington next to JFK and other great Americans..

Don't get me wrong, I think it is a decent film but nothing special either. But I think that is it's charm. It tells a story in a logical and lineal manner. A lot of films now try and be fancy or jump all over the place etc. Some are just plain boring.

It is a good film and I think there is still a huge market for story driven movies as opposed to the extended music videos we see so often.
