To Amber Heard, everyone over 25 is middle aged.

Its that man again!!

Including herself, then, since she's 28.

Her husband is pretty much a senior citizen.

Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?

reply

It was a lame attempt at humor - I don't know why it fell so flat. Maybe Heard's ambivalent delivery ("Was she really serious, or just yanking Ethan's chain?"), the whole environment (in a room of beat-up and shot-up bodyguards), or just the whole material?

Any way you cut it, it fell like a clunker, not a laugh-out-loud joke for young people.

Your math is bad OP.

Well, since 60s is old age, then 30s is middle-aged. True, a lot of people don't just die at 60, but it is the start of old age.

Hey folks,

This thread reminds me of the dialogue between Ethel Thayer (who is 69) and her husband Norman Thayer (who is 79) in the film "On Golden Pond." Norman was constantly complaining about the downside of old age, and Ethel says something like, "We're not old, Norman, we're just middle age." To which Norman replies, You're 69 and I'm 79, Ethel. People don't live to be 160."

That film was done in 1981. Now about 34 years later, I am in the middle of Ethel and Norman's ages, and I certainly do identify with Norman's lack of enthusiasm with the whole idea of getting older. In spite of my wrestling with my own aging process, I still find the banter between Norman and Ethel in this film to be refreshing and smile provoking.

After all these years have passed, I think about a whole generation of new folks who have been born and probably have never seen this film. I would think anyone in their middle age years would find this film just as wonderful as I did so long ago. However, all I have to do is suggest to my children and grandchildren they might find this film most interesting, and I immediately see "the look" come over their faces. Obviously, I am from another time and place, and I really do not fit in with the present. I guess I am Norman Thayer.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile
