Kevin Costner = budget Liam Neeson?
Okay, for the record I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I expected.
From the trailers and reviews I was expecting some sort of light comedy and it does have comedic elements. That all said, I don't think they quite nailed the balance between humour and drama and is possibly the reason this film did only so-so at the box office.
It almost seemed to be trying to be Taken Lite... aging spy, father trying to do right by his family and leave the game behind, European setting... And, of course, the Luc Besson connection between the two movies.
I even had the impression that they were trying to turn this into another potential franchise with Costner in the Neeson role.
Costner is pretty good in this and makes me wish he'd do more of this stuff and less of the sports/drama stuff. Except for the goofy Euro-scarves... they're too effete for a corn-fed, salt-of-the-earth American.
