Is this a comedy?
I don't understand. Is this a parody or what?
shareIt crossed genres for sure, but I unashamedly found myself frequently LOL!
shareObviously, it's supposed to be an action-comedy. But it failed at that.
It has to be a comedy, doesn't it? It wasn't marketed as one, but they can't expect you to take all of this stuff seriously. I laughed quite a bit.
shareHere's a hint: if the cancer-ridden hitman tortures someone with jumper cables in one scene, then drops in on him later for parenting tips in another, it's a comedy.
shareYes. It's a Comedy. Not many people get that.
Comparable to movies such as Shoot 'Em Up (2007) and Crank (2006)
It's curtains for you, Dr. Horrible. Lacy, gently wafting curtains.
Action comedy, but it wasn't really billed that way in previews and really doesn't balance it well. There are good parts where the action is solid, and some of the comedy bits work to but it doesn't blend well. Its like they weren't sure which one they really wanted it to be. I did like the film overall, but it was clearly flawed and its not surprising it didn't do well when it was released.
shareI thought that the film was rather enjoyable,
shareI think the reason the movie worked so well for me is exactly that the mix of comedy and thriller is NOT balanced. 15 years ago a similar plot might have been taken seriously; trying it today would fail, even though we still somehow wish to see these old-school ultimate good guy movies with happy endings and gorgeous women clothed as sparsely as possible.
And this movie does exactly that and winks at you at every corner. I would not say it is a parody, but let's say a playful homage? :)
I just saw this movie today and I cannot believe how much I enjoyed it.
Yes, many many funny scenes. Good family scenes.
And KC did a great job of a retiring agent. If rating, I would give it an 8. KC was a great surprise, really touching.
Almost all of Besson's movies are action comedies, what did you expect. If you don't know about Besson, then you should have looked around before you posted.
Look at 'Lucy', his newest movie, it was full of LOL moments where the whole audience would laugh.

Heck ya 'Leon' is chock FULL of LOL moments. There is a quote that I use to this day, and if I don't say out loud, I say it in my head:
Norman Stansfield: Bring me everyone.
3rd Stansfield man: What do you mean "everyone"?
Norman Stansfield: EVERYONE.
Thats one of the funniest things that man has ever said in a movie, lol.
Then there is this:
Mathilda: Leon, I think I'm kinda falling in love with you.
[Leon chokes on his milk]
Mathilda: It's the first time for me, you know?
Léon: [wiping himself off] How do you know it's love if you've never been in love before?
Mathilda: 'Cause I feel it.
Léon: Where?
Mathilda: [stoking her stomach] In my stomach. It's all warm. I always had a knot there and now... it's gone.
Léon: Mathilda, I'm glad you don't have a stomach ache any more. I don't think it means anything.
LMAO!!
And this:
Léon: Stansfield?
Stansfield: At your service.
Léon: [handing him something] This is from... Mathilda.
Stansfield: [sees that it's a pin for a grenade] *beep*
OMG, I am going to watch Leon now, later...
Luc Besson also directed "The Fifth Element", which is an action-comedy-scifi movie wich "parodies" action and sci-fi tropes. It is really fun to watch. I liked "3 days to kill" too, knowing that he wrote it ;)
