Josh's accent

Can anyone shed light on the voice/accent of Josh Thomas? I've come to love it, but it seems kinda all over the place and I really can't place it. Is he someone who has lived in several different countries? Is it how he speaks in real life? Apologies if this topic has already been covered - I'm a new convert to the show.

I am tired of charrin' my ass on your back burner.

I presume it must be how he speaks in real life - You are correct in the fact it sounds very odd - it sounds kind of northern mainland european mixed with campness and a hint of aussie.

I guess it must be his real voice. You prob couldn't fake it. I bet there's no one who could do a convincing impression of him.

Every now and then I also hear a bit of Stewie from Family Guy.

His voice is unique but it's not contrived, nor is it an accent - it's just always been that way. He has spoken about it.

Another young Aussie comedian who has an accent all his own is Like MacGregor.

On his IMDB page someone says he never spoke like that it's all put on, they went to school with him. It's the most strange and stupid accent and his crying is annoying.

Its funny, when I first heard Josh Thomas talk I assumed that he was from somewhere like Ireland and maybe moved here at a young age, then I found out that he's a Queenslander, born and bred.

His accent is definitely an intriguing and odd mix, though I don't really see why it should upset anyone. Peoples' accents and speech mannerisms can and do change over time, mine certainly has!

I grew up in country NSW and Western Sydney, but learnt to speak quite "posh". Mostly thanks to my mum I think, English is a second language for her so she always made a real effort to learn to speak "correctly" and enunciate clearly. I managed to avoid picking up her foreign accent, but I did pick up the thing of really pronouncing every letter in a word - not usually how the Aussie accent works, and definitely not in the areas I grew up! I stuck out like a sore thumb at school 😀

Then I went backpacking and came back to OZ with a bit of an UK accent. I was so thrilled to be home after two years away, that I started to get genuinely upset about people constantly asking me where I was from in the UK! That's when my accent started to get more ocker, it wasn't really a conscious thing, it just sort of happened over the next few years. I started saying "gunna" instead of "going to", that kind of thing. Now I have this totally weird mix of posh Aussie and bogan, with a whole bunch of British slang thrown in just to really confuse people 😇

Interesting. I 'catch' accents very easily too.
I kind of assumed he'd travelled a lot and that's how his voice ended up that way.
Anyway, as you say it doesn't really matter, I was just intrigued by it.

I'm from Australia and he sounded British to me so I looked it up and nope he's aussie bred and born. The accent could have been picked up from relatives he lived with though if they have strong accents.

I read somewhere that his mum is Irish and he picked up her lilt.

Its sounds like he went to a posh boys school.
