Houston is the worst place they could go to lose weight

I lived there for the better part of a decade.

1. the sweltering heat/humidity for 5-6 months out of the year would prevent them from getting any exercise outside. At 600+ pounds, the risk of heatstroke is pretty high

2. every restaurant chain known to man resides there. You can't throw a rock without hitting an all you can eat buffet

That's a good one. You've just given 600+ pound people a new reason to blame for their inability to lose weight...

So I take it from your answer that you have never been there. There is a reason why Dr. Now's practice is located in Houston. Probably because there is no lack of morbidly obese patients. Also, the Texas Medical Center is the largest medical complex in the world.

Houston has been named fattest city in America year after year in various publications due to the heat and being a vast wasteland of chain restaurants/all you can eat buffets. A typical tortilla there is made with so much lard that you can see through it when you hold it up to the light

It also is in the Guinness Book of World records as the most air-conditioned place on earth.

Heatstroke is a very real threat there even to people who aren't overweight. I can personally attest to that

Houston has one of the best medical centers in the world. People fly in from all over the world for treatment there. Congresswoman Giffords was treated there. Houston has several blocks downtown called The Medical Center which treats just about any condition known. So actually, Houston is a very logical place to have a surgery center devoted to high-risk patients. Yes, the locals are fat and the climate is swampy, but that has nothing to do with the quality of treatment these patients will receive.
