You must have noticed

..that the parents, husbands, wives and or boyfriends of these folks are ( mostly) all grossly obese as well.

A parent who allows their child to become obese should be prosecuted for child abuse ?

I've noticed that too. It's almost like they are justifying their own eating issues by convincing themselves they are getting the food for the person they are enabling. It also bothers me that when the person trying to lose weight is sitting there eating vegetables and lean protein, the enablers sit there eating fast food right in front of them.

In the cases of parents, this is precisely where the patient's own eating habits started, so it's hard to say they should've known better when they weren't raised any better, and the eating habits you grow up with DO stick with you.

My mother was overweight ever since I could remember. I think she topped out at about 220 at her heaviest. I dieted and worked out all my life to avoid being obese. I used to try to keep her from eating bad things. She did go to Weight Watchers twice back in the 70s and 80s and got down to 145, but each time she gained it back.

Four years ago she broke her hip and went into cardiac arrest and nearly died. She had fluid build up around the heart (congestive heart failure.) She was 78 and weight 218, and with 2 rounds of dialysis and large doses of diuretics they got 60 lbs off her in about a month. She stayed on Bumex (diuretic) and was forced to change her eating habits because we had to shop for her. So she kept the weight off for the last 4 years of her life. Her diabetes went away 2 years ago, so they took her off Metformin. Unfortunately the damage had been done, and I lost her in March at age 82. She told me she would have taken better care of herself had she known she would make it to 80. Her mother lived to be a very healthy 101. My grandmother's aunt made it to 106. I'm 58 and don't care to live to 100, but I know I have to watch my weight so I don't put my kids through misery.

So I watch this show and wonder how these people can even breathe. Surely they develop Diabetes and fluid around the heart and lungs. It has to be a huge strain on the heart. I just can't even imagine life like that.

I'm not sure that putting them into the foster care system would be any better for them. It's just Darwinism, luck of the draw. Every kid is born with disadvantages. What's next, sterilizing obese adults because they might have fat kids?
