Brandi and Kandi

I have to say that the premier last night was one of the more touching I have ever seen. Those girls really went though some traumatic experiences as children so their comfort in food to hide it wasnt unusual. Most of these eps I am horribly disgusted with the people especially when they don't follow Dr Now's advice and stick to their diet. In order to ave themselves and each other Brandi and Kandi were fully committed. I actually teared up at some moments and was extremely excited at the progress they made. Also cheered several times becasue you could tell they really wanted this and were not just making excuses. They had issues and wanted to resolve them and get healthier. I loved it and I hope that they have continued to succeed on their weightloss journey.

I too was moved by the episode. Rarely have I seen patients so committed to treatment.

Very sad episode but I'm glad it ended okay. It could have ended tragically. Glad kandi survived. It's good they have eachother and they can lose weight together.

reply

This is probably the most depressing episode Ive ever seen of the show to date. No fault of their own though. They went through soooooooooo much and it was very sad. While I am thrilled with their success last night, It scares me how codependent they are on each other. What happens when one gets a significant other and wants to move, the other will fall apart, which is very unhealthy. They even were losing the same amounts of weight, which was unusual and even the doc pointed that out.

This is one thing that upsets me about Dr. Now. When he asked the girls how they became overweight, they flat out told him they had poor eating habits and they had traumatic experiences . Why doesn't he get it that most of his patients could benefit from counseling first. It seems like it would be benificial to have the counseling before he cuts their stomach open. All he seems concerned about is can they lose 50 lbs. in a month.

I see where you are coming from but I approve of them 'taking responsibility for their actions' rather than whining about whatever. I am not poo-pooing their trauma but I do see far too many people whine excuses because their home life wasn't Leave it to Beaver or Full House-esque. There are many people who 'tap out of life' because of one or two things that have happened to them instead of pulling on their big girl pants and dealing with it.

I also agree with you regarding the patients benefiting counseling first/during. I am surprised that it is not a pre-requisite for most of his patients. If plastic surgeons want to urge their 'breast augmentation again patients' to seek counseling then he should.

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

Because for people who appear on this show counseling could take years in order to deal with issues. And healh-wise - they don't have years.

I could see it taking six months or so but what good does it do to cut into someone's stomach knowing the whole time that the underlying issues are still festering. I just feel the patients would benefit from the therapy as much as the surgery.
( except for idiots like Penny of course. I don't think anything can save her. 😳 )

That's why doctor asks them to lose weight on their own first, before doing a surgery. So that they can show him that they're serious about losing weight.

But you're correct - these people need to deal with issues in their heads before starting the weight loss. Stats show that over 80% of people regain the weight, so chances are - most of these people will too.

Poor girls. They both looked like such sad souls. I hope things work out for them.

Save for Kandi's heart issues (which hopefully will improve), these two look to be able to come out pretty well physically. From the previews, it looks like we're going to see some pretty bad skin issues which are going to be hard to overcome. Again, except for Kandi nearly dying, this was fairly uneventful as far as tantrum throwing and people just blatantly regarding Dr. Now's protocols. They'll need skin surgery but these two are really good for each other. I hope they can be happy.

reply

That's what I liked about this episode. Brandi and Kandi seem like two very lovely, warm hearted women. You rarely see that on this show. It's usually spoiled people who have temper tantrums and are not very likable.

reply

They really are. I live in the same city as them and every time I had contact with them, they're both really nice, genuine people.

reply

I had to come here first before watching the rest of the episode. I had to know that Kandi made it before I continued watching. My heart cant take it!!!! They are such lovely souls. I'm rooting for them.

Okay now back to watching the rest of the episode.

reply

It was most certainly one of the few episodes where I could actually sympathize with the people. I felt sorry for them.

Time wounds all heels.

This show was too long and I got bored with it. I kept looking at the clock waiting for it to be over

reply

I liked that they had a roll in shower at the beginning. So many of the others try to squeeze into a stall shower, or worse, a tub shower. Most of these people live such sad lives, it's nice to see that these two had proper plumbing.

reply

I agree!! I thought they were extremely likable, possibly the most likable candidates so far!! I can't wait to see a follow-up. I also think they will be really cute once they've shed all that excess fat
