Is taste/flavor the key?

At my heaviest 225 lbs i lost most of my weight after taking zinc for a cold. I swear everything tasted like cardboard for almost three months afterward and ultimately got back down to 179 where i pretty much stayed since 2012. Have they even looked at this as a factor. Will power is one thing but when you don't get the payoff from eating you quickly lose interest.

I'm wondering if this would be a bad idea for me to try to lose weight. So since you were sick/taking th zinc, did you lose weight because you were eating so much less? Did doctors ever tell you if that was dangerous? I'm very curious about your experience.

Basically the zinc i took for the head cold killed my ability to taste anything. Had less to do with a cold and more likely a side effect of the zinc.

I never care for the idea of will power because, you're right, it doesn't last. We always hear "lifestyle changes," but even I can see that is difficult for those that want "just that one meal, right then and there." Of course, one meal turns into another, and since the pay-off is immediate, but the weight gain is not, it is easy to see how many relapse.

So the idea of altering the taste of food is an interesting idea. Unfortunately, there wouldn't be one thing that would work on everybody. Even dusting the food with something bitter but safe... well, I can see most not holding to that. At some point too, the life style change has to endure, when tricks eventually wear lff for one reason or another. I'd give yourself credit in that area for keeping off the weight for so long.

I kind of have to credit cutting out Regular Coke, and having a position at work where i'm on my feet all day back and forth. My exercise is built into the job and i do about 15 miles a week according to my phone app. Think Amazon order picker but at a walking pace LOL

My secret was phentermine. One pill per day and you won't feel hungry and it will give you energy like you're on speed. It will pretty much force you to get out of the house and do physical things.

I continue to take it even now when I lost weight - I can sleep 2-3 hours during the night and still be completely fresh and full of energy the next day. Thank God for drugs.

I don't know if cutting out cola was easy for you, but you still should give yourself credit for lifestyle changes. Does food still taste odd to you? Zinc was maybe the jump start, but ultimately, it's been your achievement to stick with it, no matter how easy it has seemed.

I was wired shut for over eight weeks, and weight loss was a given, but ultimately it wore off, so I know the idea of temporary fixes. Not that I was wired shut for weight loss, but there are people who have had some tongue device to make food painful to eat, similar to wiring. Kind of kooky to choose something like that, but if a temporary thing propels people to make long term changes, I get that. I still think you should give yourself credit for what you maintained, regardless of the start. It takes more than temporary fixes to maintain the longer success.

I think after the effect of the Zinc wore off the Cola was just too damned sweet. My taste buds were out of sorts and anything i ate when the sensation came back was too sweet too salty etc. Thank you for the comments but there really was little effort on my part. Everything came together in a way where i developed a distaste for salty/sweet foods and my job did the rest. I honestly wouldn't be walking as much if weren't tied to a paycheck.

I'm sure it is!! If food doesn't taste nice, it's not tempting...that's also why we all crave fried foods so much, fat is a very good transporter of flavour
