Her reason for leaving was pretty lame, "I was going to hurt you"? Instead of getting help for what she considered a problem, she leaves? I kind of felt it was really something else but she didn't want to say. What a terrible thing to do.

That's not really uncommon, even today. The advice columns in the newspaper are full of parents who don't know what to do when they come dangerously close to hitting their kids when they get angry.

He seemed to realize that it was bull, but just wanted to move on to where she was estranged and he wasn't angry. If you're thinking of hurting the kids, get a friend to watch them while you go for a walk. But not for 30 years. The mother was likely a selfish jerk who enjoyed booze, drugs and sex more than being a mother. She didn't even know how old her grandkids were so she was taking her holiday from parenting pretty far. She lied to him about why she left but he accepted her explanation, forgave her, and most importantly moved on.

That's what I was thinking too because she looks like she could have been a biker chick in her younger days. She probably left for booze and drugs and an exciting biker over her husband, never to see her kids again.
