It begins in 1980 with the start of Reagan's first term. It's now in its last season (about halfway through) and its reached mid-1987.

This is definitely a Cold War era show. I'm about Paige's age and definitely grew up thinking that nuclear annihilation by the Soviet Union was likely in my lifetime. The Cold War ended about 1990 as Communism fell in Eastern Europe.

This last season of the show is set in 1987 so you are right on the edge of historical change as the Berlin Wall falls in 1989 and that's the first falling domino that ended with the dissolution of the Warsaw pact in 1991(?).
