Ben Affleck looks terrific in this.

A role different to ones he has done before. Looking forward to this movie. Looks fantastic.

By "franchise" do you mean more characters with autistic disorders who as a tradeoff have amazing abilities that most normal people do not? The first example I ever saw of that in a movie was RAIN MAN with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. Suffering from a form of it myself seeing characters on the autistic spectrum compensate with amazing abilities would be nice.

It looks like Ben Affleck just acting like he does in real life but pretending to be good at math.

Some of us find Salvation in Nothing.

Er - that's what all actors do. They pretend.

Yeah that's kind of what I thought at first. It will be hard to 'buy' Ben Affleck as a genius, considering his prior work. One of the main characteristics of a good actor is just being intelligent. For an actor, it's hard to play someone smarter than yourself - I thought Joseph Gordon Levitt did a great job of that in Inception.

I think it says a lot about our culture that we are now ready to idolize an autistic guy for his focused technical abilities. It's the triumph of silicon valley over being human. But I can't buy a portrayal of an autistic person who is just perfectly self-controlled - that's what it looks like from the trailer. We'll see. Overall, I think it will be easier for people who are not intelligent and don't know any smart people to suspend disbelief for this flick.

Autism is a spectrum disease. Probably a lot of people have some of the characteristics and aren't even aware of it. Overall, it just seems that lacks in one area of ability are made up by strengths in others. Maybe there's just only so much room for abilities in the human brain.

Autism in people who are more capable in life than those who are further down on the spectrum still retain that struggle to naturally socialize like anyone else. So far, Affleck is pretty much nailing that in some of the film's clips.
