They made Afleck's alcohol-fueled redface blend in with the limited, moody color tones.

LOL, Affleck definitely looks worse for wear when he's not filming but he cleans up nicely when it's time to film; but you can tell they put a lot of makeup and editing to make him look younger. Granted, he's not the first guy in the world to do this.
