Ben Affleck really believes he's a great actor and director

Dude is the biggest hack in the business.

This *beep* just looks so pretentious. You can see he's trying to copy the indie vibe with the film, only problem being that it's not indie and it's not under the radar.

Can't believe he's going to ruin Batman.

Going to ruin Batman? He already has. The character was put in severe jeopardy the second he was cast as Bruce Wayne. Ben Affleck, by himself, is an okay director and actor--a better director than actor, and his acting isn't as awful when he plays characters he himself writes. I do agree that he's very mediocre. He's gotten some acclaim for his directing, that should suffice for him, he'll never be a great actor, he needs to come to terms with it.

Complaining that something written and directed by someone other than Affleck and still calling him the pretentious being is pathetic.

People have taken to insulting me on this board as apparently i come on to strong. I don't like Affleck for everything that his done, in fact up until his acting credit in, The Town, i disliked him as an actor (Excluding Good Will Hunting). Yet since Gone Baby Gone, Affleck has been at the top of his game as a writer, director and actor. Whats childish and questionable isn't my list of anticipated films but the way people attempt to insult and victimise the guy. Its a shame i can't come to a message board and talk about movies that i'm looking forward to with a mature group of people.

Ben is Ben in every role. The thing I dislike about his acting is you can't get into his films because you can't forget it's Ben. Not that he's the only actor who can only play one note, actors like Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey have the same problem. Instead of becoming the character the character becomes them. I can't say they don't occasionally shine in some roles but most of those roles are written with only them in mind.

Here's clips of Ben in Runner Runner, The Town, Batman, and Argo

Nothing but Ben being Ben

Surprisingly i agree with most of what you say. Yet this issue has become so common within Hollywood that one learns to get past it. Even once great actors such as Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro have become mediocre. I agree that when Affleck is at his best, the role has been written specifically for him, hence i often say that while his an 'ok' actor, i prefer his writing and directing styles / techniques.

The Town will always be my definitive Affleck role, while he does make an amazing Batman, it could be just because they have many attributes in common. Nothing but Ben being Ben, welcome to modern megastar Hollywood.

Also, thank you for being one of the only users to be respectful on this board. Its appreciated.

P.s, Don't remind me of Runner Runner. 😜

Wow was expecting an attack. You don't get too many reasonable people these boards and fully respect you liking a actor I don't. Thanks, we need more posters on IMDB such as yourself.

PS: Hey guys leave him alone. He's not a blind fan he just likes what he likes we all have our guilty pleasures. Mine is Danny Elfman's Oingo Boingo I can only hear them in the car by myself I love that band but understand people who don't.

'She' Sorry mate, its he. My profile picture is of an actress that happens to be somewhat terrible at acting but has become, as you say, a guilty pleasure. Thank you for your kind words. 😊

Oops!

Say what you will about Affleck being Affleck, but comparing those four clips, he usually uses his normal voice to talk which is somewhat high-pitched. But he really dropped his voice an octave for BvS. It's so much deeper and that's without the voice modulation.

How does it feel to be deconstructed?

reply

Austrapol is his PR rep or something. It's pathetic. I'm not dumb.

Yet on multiple occasions you have sought out my messages and replied in a manner that neither discusses the film nor anything in relation to it. Instead you comment on my so called 'antics'.

I have (on other threads) attempted to discuss the film with you and retort your arguments, hence its called a 'discussion'. I'm happy to apologize as i can see why you feel antagonized however, it is also your responsibility to realize that you caused the hostility. Throughout the board you have never given sufficient arguments, resulting in crude messages either aimed at Affleck or myself.

insulting someone for their opinion is another thing

You need to understand the difference between an opinion and an allegation.

Again, i'll apologize if you show some chivalry and do so yourself.

Ben didn't write or direct this film though...

An opinion is one thing, insulting someone for their's is another. You appear to have no understanding of what it is you have done.
