Well, one son turned out to be working for drug cartels and also murdered dozens of people. The other is a professional assassin for hire. What do you think?

ROFLMAO

At Dana's apartment, Christian killed the two men who were going to put her in a box, and the two men outside who were making sure they weren't disturbed. One of those men shoved Dana face-down on the kitchen worktop, and one ( maybe the same one ) shot holes in her bathroom door. The man at the farm told Christian that the plan was to kill her.

At the farm, he shot the man who was holding a gun at the head of the farmer's wife.

Would you describe the killing of them, by Christian, as murder ?

Maybe in some cases, he could have merely left them with severe injuries, but Dana's life was in immediate danger ; and he couldn't afford to let them either re-engage in the fight, or call for back-up / warn their boss.

reply

Exactly, he was protecting people. It was self-defense.

reply

See Geoff's response, plus he killed the people defending Blackburn who was trying to kill him. IOW all self-defense which is not murder, re: the dictionary definition. And I'm sure I've seen the movie a lot more times than you have Pops.

reply

It's murder my sweet child. He went out of his way to kill people with premeditation . The people were guarding Blackburn even if Blackburn wanted him dead, at that moment in time, instead of alerting law enforcement he killed them in a preemptive assault. He also had time to retreat and disappear from their lives forever. Let's see you kill someone that says they will kill you( and they are serious) or tried to kill you but failed at an earlier moment in time such as many hours or days earlier. Do you think the courts would say that is self defense?

FINALLY BLACKBURN WAS UNARMED AND NO THREAT AS HE WAS MURDERED BY WOLFF!

reply

If he wasn't dead, he'd continue to be a threat.

reply

The law on self-defence is a tricky one, but it refers to the person having a reasonable belief that their life was in danger. As for calling law enforcement instead, maybe, but perhaps they would have all melted away, covered up the evidence ( with $60 million of lost money ), got off ; and then gone after him later.

Given the number of people that Lamar had ordered to be murdered, and the narrowness by which Chris and Dana escaped, I think Chris was right to regard him as a "Clear and Present Danger".

reply

Let's say someone tries to kill you, and shows every intention of trying to do so again ; but the police refuse to believe you, or do anything about it. Would you take no "affirmative" action against them ?

reply

The Gambino family, I think we would agree was simple revenge. Most countries would at least lock him up for that, though he might get Manslaughter rather than Murder. He matured after that, passing on the tips that instead put the perpetrators in jail.

reply

Is a paladin immoral when he enforces a moral code against immorality being enabled by an immoral or broken system?

The only people we know of that he enforced such a code against were the Gambinos at the Ravenite Club. He killed Blackburn in self-defense of himself and Dana. And it could well be that he's going to rehabilitate his brother. Chris became a force for morality, of sorts, in spite of his father, while Braxton was apparently misled by their father. Braxton looks up to his brother, and that may end up setting him right.

And yes, the ending is great.

reply

IMHO, a succeed

People tend to have weird things for disabilty people (autism)

Look how Chris got blend (?) in society (i dont count anti sosialism as a weird fact)

As for Brax..we dont know his reason for leaving pops and Chris..so i really dont have conclusion..

But Brax did still deeply care for his brother

reply

I'd say on balance, yes.

I think I have the reference right :
In Coward of the County ( based on Kenny Roger's ballad of the same name ), an orphaned young lad is brought up by his uncle. At the end of the film, the uncle asks his nephew if he has been a good uncle.
"No", replies the boy. "But you've been an excellent father."

Sometimes the best gifts of a father, are those the son doesn't realise until much later.

reply

For all people who said yes , remember what Ben said to the cop "were you a good father" and he said "yes" which Ben spared him his life otherwise he was going to kill him , IMH Ben know that his father tried to be a good father but in the end he was not as his method let both kid to reach the the wrong way .

IMO and i see a lot of fathers try to make their kid tough but in the end they break them and most kids hate their parents but in the end they turn exactly like them .

reply

I was going back and forth on it and really wondering why I was not feeling more outraged at the fathers actions and then I got it - this question is really moot, as the methods the father employed would never ever work in reality. At least not for a person on the spectrum. Not unless you'd want that person to suffer a complete and utter nervous breakdown and go crazy for the rest of his/her life.

There are ways to achieve more or less same results as the father did here, but they are very, very different.

So for me it was the only weak point in this movie, I just glossed over it and tried my best to employ something akin to suspension of disbelief.

I'm the only one that exists.

The father was a complicated character. I understood what he was trying to do. Believe it or not, a child can have great parents and still grow up to be a criminal. I know parents are usually blamed for everything, but some things just happen. One of the quotes from the movie is 'Life is a series of choices'. Some people choose wrongly.
