I think it comes as a bit of a relief to people when they find out there is a reason for their social struggles. At least to those I have spoken with about it. Kind of like, if you have some weird disease and then someone says "oh, you have this", and because it now has a name, you can work with that. Same thing with autistics. If their family understands them, they now have more of a chance to be understood and to make gains, with help.

A simple mind is a tidy mind.
