This film was so good...

...that on the front page of IMDB discussion for this film there isn't a single 'It sucked' post!

Which is really saying a lot, as I think 99.99% of every discussion board on IMDB has at least a dozen "this sucks" posts for every film.

Anyhow, this was a lovely treat of a film. A nicely filmed, edited (and scored, natch) documentary about someone that I can only describe as "a good, simple person".

Now, off to iTunes to buy his albums...

It's got a 96% on RottenTomatoes from the critics, and 95% of audience liked it too.

It's so inspiring on so many levels. If you view the extras, the fervor of the fans who made it their mission to find out the truth about Rodriguez, is matched by the fervor of the director who, once he heard this story, HAD to make this film. And the music is great. And Rodriguez really does seem like a good guy.

The story was great. The film itself was nothing special. If you had to take a drink every time they showed a "gritty" Detroit building or Rodriguez walking through snow, you'd need a liver transplant. They also had surprisingly few interviews with South Africans considering how popular he is there (I think we saw the same two guys about 20 times each), and the filmmakers completely omitted Rodriguez's late 70's success to fit their narrative.

All that said, I'd much rather watch a 7 documentary about a 10 story than a 10 doc about a 7 story.
