Have people become so jaded and cynical

That they just can't enjoy a film like this and relish in the delight? It seems like every other person has a bone to pick with the reality of the film. And then there's another group that has no trouble believing it's real, yet feels it's their duty to pick it apart bit by bit because that's what they do. It's similar to how 'Foodies' will try to unscramble a perfectly cooked risotto and offer their unique 'insights' as to how it somehow lacked that edge even if it tasted absolutely wonderful.

I really enjoyed this film and will recommend it to my friends. On the other hand the strange and sometimes ugly comments on this forum will be forgotten very quickly.

I agree 100%. But this is IMDb. The place is crawling with trolls. I've never seen a board on this site that didn't contain at least half dozen "this film sucks" posts, I don't care what film it is. The best thing to do is just put those people on ignore.

Please learn what 'troll' means. Thanks.

Yeah, they'll be forgotten very quickly... so, they're not worth worrying about.

I think people misunderstand what a documentary is. The way this was set up as a detective story and then to find out that the events happened in the late 1990s led some people to believe that they were manipulated.

Its that man again!!

It is really strange that it took so long for the documentary to be released like this.

From what I've read the editing process alone took more than 3 years.

But that can be the nature of documentaries sometimes. A very small team (often of 1) being responsible for what would be many peoples jobs if this were a large budget film. And typically working on a shoe string or 0 budget, its a work of love rather than money.

There's some parts of the film that were recorded on a smart phone years after they ran out of money for real film to continue the project. That's dedication where most people would have scrapped the project entirely.

Just finished watching this amazing documentary, maybe one of the best I've ever seen and definately one of the most amazing true stories I've ever heard.

Glad to read that Rodriguez is finally getting the notoriety, respect and money he has deserved for so many years.

That Clarence Avant came off as a really shady con man, I also hope that he gets what he deserves!

My sentiments exactly! I was going to say the EXACT same thing.

This was the best thread I read on the Searching for Sugar Man (2012) message board.

The fact that "it's the internet" not withstanding, people really amaze me with their cold-heartness sometimes. I'm just glad I don't have to trade-places with any of them.

You know what worries me is that they say people are completely themselves on the net, behind anonymity..so when people show concern in real life for eachother....it brings me back to the general apathy and negativity of the net and while watching people show concern, I can't help but wonder
