Why did Rodriguez give up so easily?

From what I understood, after releasing two albums, and an unfinished third album, he abruptly cut every bond that he had with music whatsoever to get hired in a completely different field?
I mean those songs have some pretty strong lyrics, I hardly found them relating to the the guy in the movie. I wonder what made him choose this sudden change of direction.

It's pretty obvious from the movie. He didn't feel comfortable with fame and fortune anyway. He wrote, performed and recorded some songs close to his heart, then that was it. He moved on to doing demolition work for the rest of his life.

This isn't Mick Jagger here, whose primary talent is self-promotion. He's just a cool, quiet, low-key guy.

Mick Jagger's primary talent is writing some of the greatest music of all time

I didn't think it was a change in direction. He was always doing physical labor to support himself, and on the side he dabbled in music as a career. When that (apparently) didn't take off, he was content to just keep doing construction and demolition work.

Music is a brutal business. The records did not sell and he got dropped by the record company. So he had to earn a living somehow but he still was involved in music which the documentary kind of skated over.

It's that man again!!

It's called cold hard reality (or should I say facts). A lot more artists fail than make it, he needed to makes ends meet, feed his family and survive.

I think the film is more lifting on the basis that there are exceptional people all over this planet that may or may not ever get recognition. However they exist, and that's enough for me.

He continued as a musician over the years, just not as a high paid, nor high profile capacity. He played parties and for friends.
