The building is supposed to be locked down, which is why the nanny and the kid need to use the override code to reach the terrace. When the nanny fails to get up the trellis, as the kid does, her noises bring the masked killer to the door. How'd he open it?

Pretty sure they aren't worried about doors to the outside that are 13 floors up.
