Surprisingly good, sweet, funny and original.
I was expecting some sort of Lifetime Original series type movie with corny cliched, C-list acting, questionable direction, loopholes and scat jokes. What I got was a funny, clever, original and even moving horror movie flick, which in itself, makes it different than the rest.
I was surprised at how invested I became in the characters, the plot and the hilarious spontaneity of the situation they were in. It's a fresh new take on the horror-comedy-drama genre.
It is also a loving and hilarious homage to 80s acting and props. There is a line one of the 80s characters says while holding a cell phone, skeptical of what it is. It made me burst out laughing for several minutes afterwards. Folks who grew up in the 80s can really relate and appreciate the comedic element of it.
I grew up in the 80s, have enjoyed some horror flicks, although they are not my favorite genre. I recommend this movie to anyone, even if they do not enjoy horror movies. I'd say the originality of the plot, the hilarity of the characters and the surprisingly emotional plot is what makes the movie fresh and different. I'd even say it's not really a horror movie, but a unique take on lampooning the typical "serial killer on campgrounds" fanfare.
If you liked "Cabin in the Woods", you will love "Final Girls."
Watch it! I will definitely watch it again!
