What was the point of making it PG-13?

If they released it theatrically it would make sense but I don't understand why they made a straight-to-video film with a limited theatrical run PG-13. It's not like it would have made a ton of money if it was Rated R or PG-13 (it only made $62,000 in DVD and BD sales) but they should have released an Unrated cut or something.

Exactly.

Parents still need to have a rating to file them with what's appropriate for their kids, regardless of it's a theatrical release or not. TV programs even have ratings. This is rated R because of the implications of sex even though nothing happens and we see zilch.

Agreed. Really enjoyed the film, thought it was very original and well made, but to be a genuine homage to the genre it should have had some graphic gore and nudity. They missed a chance to create a proper cult classic.

Totally agree. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of gore and nudity. Other than that I loved the movie.

Bump.

It didn't bug me for the first half of the movie, but towards the end, I was like C'MON. Definitely should've made it a hard R.

Yeah I'm tired of the excessive pg 13 horror films

Considering 95% of reviews (positive and negitive) complained about the rating, it really makes you wonder why the hell they did it.
