Fake deaths? (spoilers)

How come all the people from the real world were able to survive their injuries, but the fictional characters weren't?
Two of the counselors died by a stab in the guts, and I don't see how that is more fatal than getting cut almost in half and run over or impaled through the back and set on fire. I liked the movie, but undoing the deaths cheapened the ending somewhat for me.

Well in the end credits it shows Adam devines character joking around in a wheelchair with almost a full body cast on, so I think we are supposed to assume he survived somehow.

Wow, really? That jerk gets to survive a brutal car crash, but the super likable Nancy gets a small jab in the stomach and dies instantly. That sucks.

By the end of the film the movie was going on full parody mode. Even though she got stabbed, Max was up and doing ninja like moves with her machete, and was able to take down Billy no problem.

Also, Duncan is the only one who could have feasibly survived from his injuries, the other three (Vicky, Gertie, and Kurt) didn't really have to return. It sort of takes away the emotional bit when they are killed, the two women anyway.

Despite having his head cut off, Billy also is back, which is more of a homage to how Jason always comes back for each installment. That rule doesn't apply to victim character, so I don't know why all the characters came back to life.

They were watching a double feature when they got trapped in the movie, so maybe they have to experience both movies. And just because they survived to be in the sequel doesn't mean they'll survive to make it back to reality. Plus, just like in Last Action Hero, it's common knowledge that in movies everything is just a flesh wound. Hell, this could be a trilogy where they have to experience the second movie, and then they get back to reality for the third movie where they have to play for keeps. Doubtful they'll be a sequel, but if there is I'll watch it.

I like the trilogy idea, with Billy following them into the real world for movie three. I can't see there even being a second movie, though.

I figured they survived because they weren't originally part of the movie Camp Bloodbath. They were not created and scripted to die in the movie so their deaths didn't stick lol. A hint of this occurs when they are first sucked into the movie and the beginning of Camp Bloodbath keeps resetting itself every 92 or whatever minutes until they hop into the van. Another hint is when Duncan returns after being sliced and diced by Billy in the woods. To me that kinda suggested that they do die but not permanently and that after a certain amount of time they are able to return alive but, somewhat injured They are in that world but not really part of it. An exception to this now might be Max herself as she actively chose to take on the role of the final girl and fulfill that characters purpose of killing Billy in the first movie. By doing this she may have taken on the characters role in the sequel and be possibly subject to their scripted fate as well.
TL:DR hand wave, cuz "magic" it is after all a movie about kids being sucked into a movie lol.

...and in conclusion that is why squirrels should always wear pants.
