probably the most unexpected "horror" i've come across *SPOILERS*

i've been binge watching a lot of indie-horrors lately so i came into this not expecting much, just read a basic synopsis of what it was about. was so surprised at how emotional it was and how invested i was in this movie. from beginning to end, i was completely stuck in this movie, and now i'd have to say it's one of my favorite indie-horrors.

everything was so balanced- the comedy, the emotional bits and the "violence". stellar cast with great acting and chemistry, esp. between farmiga and akerman. didn't cry but their scenes had me choking. also loved the scene of dobrev and shawkat's characters holding hands before they die.

the soundtrack was awesome too. i really love hearing 80s music in horror, it just feels right. some other horrors i watched also used a similar kind of score- it follows, the guest etc. (both of which i loved also, esp. it follows). i'll never listen to that bette davis eyes song the same way again.

i read josh miller, son of jason miller (who played father karras in the exorcist and recently passed away), wrote the script with the idea of what it'd be like if he got a second chance to meet his father again. i can probably safely say that jason miller would've been proud of his son's script, because i damn sure was.
