Did the film feel like a Friday the 13th homage

While I liked the film for its over the top premise but in many ways, it felt like a Friday the 13th ripoff between the music, theme, and similar backstory of the killer.

Absolutely. It was Friday the 13th and Teen Beach Movie being put in a mixer.
