Woody Woodpecker is popular in Spanish speaking parts of the world for a reason, that and Brazil, Great Britain and Japan (which that one should be self-explanatory). In his formative years shortly after his debut, his mischievous nature was the epitome of the screwball style comedy (think the likes of American comedian Charley Chase) which thrived at the time. Woody enjoyed quite a strong following from men serving in the armed forces when World War 2 was in full swing.
His name is hilarious. Some find his laugh annoying though, understandably. For many, it's impeccable!
