The Walter Lantz cartoons had bad writing.
I kind of agree, while Walter Lantz cartoons had good animation, their writing had some problems and needed better writers to make them memorable. Woody Woodpecker is not as big or memorable as Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse and also Walter Lantz Productions latter became into Universal Animation Studios which mostly makes direct to DVD animated films.
