worthwhile film will sadly fly under the radar
my only problem with this film is that too many bad things happen to these kids.
the film is a chain of "inevitable defeats" that happen again and again. very simple ones, like getting bullied, having a pet die, or being hungry, but in the context of their world (living in public/low rent housing with junkie whores as mothers) it's pretty devastating.
i'm sure the kid who plays the lead is thin in real life, but i was wondering if he got even skinnier for the movie. good lord.
great acting, familiar story, but the kids who play mister and pete are fantastic. it was really touching to see their relationship grow.
jennifer hudson did a pretty good job of playing a pathetic mom.
jordin sparks' accent was weird. kinda like...hollywood pop tart with an aftertaste of east coast thrown in. she was kind of a distraction. they could've chosen someone else to play that part.
overall...it's a must see.
